The transformation was unexpected.
As a former Division 1 Athlete, and adrenaline junky, I stepped into a yoga studio to help alleviate some of the aches and pains of overtraining. My first class was painful. “You want me to hold this pose and prolong my discomfort? WHY?” But I came back again and again. In 2014, I completed a renowned, and intense 200-hour teaching program and immediately began teaching. I was more in tune with my body, mind, and emotions than I had ever been, and I felt a strong desire to share my experience and encourage others to map their own path to health and happiness.
My mind, my body, it’s all connected. Here’s how I stay balanced.
KEEP MY BODY MOVING.
With a regular yoga practice, I notice the physical sensations of my body, how it fluctuates with my energy level, and where I hold my stress. How well do you know your body?
NOTICE THE PATTERNS OF MY MIND.
I put effort into changing the neural pathways of my brain to stimulate positive thinking through a regular meditation practice. Do you know the patterns of your mind?
PAUSE THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
I’m able to shift my perspective when I focus on the events throughout the day that bring me joy i.e. a hug from a loved one, a laugh with a colleague, or a beautiful sunset. Do you recognize the beauty in your day?
